The Road to GradIOSH and Beyond – The NVQ Route

In the November 2016 issue of the IOSH Magazine, Bridget Leathley looked at the Health & Safety qualifications landscape, where it was stated that those ‘practitioners’ aiming for Grad IOSH would find a host of qualifications that would entitle them to apply for IOSH membership at ‘Graduate’ level. National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) provide access to Grad IOSH status, as an IOSH accredited qualification. We accept that there are differing routes to Grad IOSH, but those people who actually carry out the role of senior health and safety management, there is no qualification more appropriate than the City & Guilds Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice because this route is proof of occupational competence and offers something that the other routes don’t offer – Added Value.

All routes to IOSH involve some form of assessment, however only the assessment methods used on an NVQ can be tailored to the your individual needs and requirements. There are no exams, no workshops to attend and no time off work (although there is a City & Guilds requirement for a minimum of one workplace observation), CADUK will ensure there is minimum disruption to to the learner’s work activities.

The process of assessment is meaningful, thoughtful and systematic and designed to encourage the individual to reflect on their own practice. During the NVQ you will be required to confirm that you have the skills, knowledge and experience needed to conduct the role to the industry standard. You will demonstrate that you have a deep understanding of health and safety and its application within your organisation.

Your allocated assessor will review your progress on an ongoing basis, offering guidance and support along the way, ensuring a timely achievement – you might even enjoy the experience..

All CADUK assessors are experienced, qualified, health and safety professionals with years of exposure within health and safety management at various levels, in numerous industries and you can be assured that we will provide you with the best possible support. Our NVQ Level 5 in Occupational Health and Safety Practice is delivered primarily using a number of interactive features such as Skype, telephone, email, remote desktop and our online ePortfolio system. The CADUK system allows you to embed workplace documentation, verbal comments and written narratives to demonstrate your knowledge and underlying skills in relation to the learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the qualification.
