Mike Turner

"I have been involved with the Construction industry since the 1980’s and have been actively involved with Site Safety since 1988 when I became a shop steward on Canary Wharf and a member of the works committee that met once a week to discuss all aspects of site safety. I have worked on most of the Major works in London between 1988 and 2004 my last job in London in 2004 was running a job in London in charge of 32 Steel fixers and accompanying staff, I had 2/24 hr slides operating, and I also worked on the largest Slide in Europe also on Canary Wharf with my own section.

Other Projects in the UK have included Power Stations –Bridges-Office Blocks –Apartment Buildings – New Submarine Pens in Plymouth and various others all of which had a degree of supervision

I am now the Centre Manager for CAD in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland working at level s 2 and 3.  One of my main roles is to help develop and train assessors in the workplace so that they can assess their own workforce.  I readily support any role or measure that improves Health and Safety on site and I believe that the NVQ process is a major step in addressing  this"
