LEVEL 3 AND 4 AWARD IN PREPARING TO TEACH IN THE LIFELONG LEARNING SECTOR

 

 

This comprises of a six credit unit. Learners can choose the level appropriate to their experience and needs.

 

 Who should take this qualification?

 

This introductory award is a pre-service/new-entrant qualification for anyone wanting to enter teaching or training in the Lifelong Learning sector. This includes those working in:

 

  • Community-based learning and development programmes

 

  • Employment and work-based learning

 

  • Teaching and training in the further education sector.

 

What does this qualification cover?

 

  • Understand your own role, responsibilities and boundaries of role in relation to teaching

 

  • Understand appropriate teaching and learning approaches in the specialist area.

 

  • Demonstrate session planning skills.

 

Understand how to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate learners.

 

  • Understand the use of different assessment methods and the need for record keeping.

 

Assessment

 

The assessment for Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector is criterion referenced, based on the achievement of specified criteria. The unit contains
contextualised pass criteria for unit assessment.

 

The overall grading for Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector is a pass, based upon the successful completion of the unit and a practical teaching observation of a micro-teach.

 

Learners must pass the unit to achieve the Level 3 BTEC Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector.

 

This is demonstrated by the ability to apply the knowledge and understanding in a practical teaching context. The emphasis is on the ability to develop and apply the skills and knowledge required in the successful delivery of learning.

 

CAD UK will use a variety of assessment methods, for example assignments, work-based assessments, along with observations of performance. Practical application of the assessment criteria in a realistic scenario will be emphasised and maximum use made of practical work experience.

 

Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL)

 

This centre will recognise learner’s previous experience through APL. Learners may have evidence that has been generated during previous study or in their previous or current employment or whilst undertaking voluntary work that relates to of the units in this qualification. Our Assessors will assess this evidence against the national standards in the specifications in the normal way. As with all evidence, our assessors have to be satisfied about the authenticity and currency of the material when considering whether or not the outcomes of the unit have been met.
