City & Guilds Level 5 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice (NVQ)
Who is this qualification for?
This qualification is designed for those involved in the practical application and/or management of health and safety and is appropriate to learners from a variety of sectors including Energy, Oil & Gas, Retail, Corporate Business, and Construction.
They will have an autonomous role in their organisation for managing health and safety policy and practice. They will report direct to or be part of the senior management team. They will recommend and implement changes relevant to their role. They will be aware of cost implications and budgetary control.
This qualification is particularly relevant to those people in the construction industry who fulfil the role of Principal Designer (CDM) i.e. those individuals appointed by the client to take control of the pre-construction phase of any project involving more than one contractor.
What are the entry requirements?
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, however potential candidates must be able to demonstrate to us that they can meet the skills and knowledge requirements of the Diploma before enrolment. This process is carried out from distance using our initial profiling tool (download it here). We will never enrol any learner onto a qualification until we have confirmed that the qualification is actually achievable.
What is the duration of the qualification?
We provide assessor support for a period of up to 1 year, however this qualification is easily achievable in 3 – 6 months depending on the motivation of the learner.
How is this qualification assessed?
The qualification is assessed by practicing safety professionals holding CMIOSH status, with experience in numerous industries, including energy, oil & gas, retail and corporate business.
Our Health and Safety Diplomas are primarily delivered interactively using a variety of methods such as skype, telephone, email, remote desktop and our unique, simple to use online ePortfolio system. Direct observation of practice by a qualified assessor must also be carried out for a minimum of one mandatory unit.
Professional recognition with the chartered Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)
Candidates that complete Unit 611 – Professional development and ethics in health and safety management will achieve IOSH Graduate membership. Once candidates have achieved the Graduate membership, they can gain Chartered membership by taking an open-book assessment and interview.
For Health & Safety Managers in the Construction Industry, this qualification also provides access to the Black CSCS Card.
