With significant cuts to the numbers of military posts in recent years, there are large numbers of active (coming towards the end of their service career) and ex-service personnel now looking to enter the job market or increase their existing employment opportunities. In the UK, current projections suggest that over 20,000 individuals leave the armed forces every year.
CADUK have identified that there are some significant barriers for serving and ex-service personnel in entering the construction industry at Supervisory & Managerial level, not least of which that at the point of leaving they do not posses the appropriate qualifications (NVQs), industry accreditation (Gold & CSCS cards) or professional recognition (CIOB/ICWCI).
Alternatively those Ex-Service people who have managed to gain employment in the construction industry and are in a supervisory or managerial role can still access ELCAS funding up to ten years after they leave to help fund the NVQ qualifications that can further enhance their employment opportunities.
