How Can I Join?

Anyone that has achieved a Pearson/Edexcel Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Construction Senior Management or a Pearson/Edexcel Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Built Environment Design & Consultancy Practice can become a Member of the Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB) by undertaking the shortened professional review.

The CIOB have stated that candidates will be able to present their NVQ Level 7 qualification certificate and complete a short application form to gain membership.

The shortening of the vocational route to membership should help anyone put off by the cost of higher education, and reduce duplication and bureaucracy.

Rosalind Thorpe, head of education at the CIOB stated that “We found that candidates were being assessed repeatedly on the same criteria by NVQ assessors who were either members or fellows of the CIOB. Candidates had already submitted a large portfolio of work to prove their competence for the NVQ7 and were then asked to do the same thing in a shorter format for CIOB membership.

Please Note:

This Fast-Track route to MCIOB is only available through the Edexcel/Pearson NVQ7 qualifications. (All CADUK Level 7 qualifications are Edexcel/Pearson and therefore are eligible for the Fast-Track route).

Anyone working towards or holding a CITB NVQ7 diploma will unfortunately not benefit from this new fast-track arrangement.

The CADUK Advanced Route

CADUK are working in collaboration with Pearson/Edexcel on an exclusive Pilot scheme designed to allow Advanced access to the NVQ Level 7 for experienced construction professionals (directors) with a “substantial body of knowledge which is at the forefront of their professional practice”.

This “Advanced route” will dramatically reduce the time it currently takes to achieve professional status with the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).

All CADUK NVQ Assessors on the advanced pilot scheme are themselves Fellows of the Chartered Institute of Building.
