NVQ for Construction Managers

Construction Managers “Its amazing what you know”

Construction Managers without a National Vocational Qualification 6 or 7 have no idea about the value of what they know. They think that,

Everyone I work with knows it already
What I do is just common sense
Lots of people know a lot more than me
It’s pretty easy, most of the time I do it without thinking about it

This often leads to them not realising their full potential.

In order to be able to VALUE what you do, you have to get what you know out of your head. You need to reflect on your own practice and get into a discussion to present other types of workplace evidence to back up your responses. Whatever you do, you have to get it out there and share it with other Construction Professionals who are in a position to appreciate and measure what you have achieved.

All of our Assessor’s and Internal Verifies are MCIOB so you will be helped and supported by someone who knows what they are doing.

If you’re prepared to do that we at CADUK can ensure that you achieve much more than just the satisfaction of knowing what you know, we can help you achieve NVQ that leads to the Black CSCS cards and then you can start to realise your true potential.

Let us help you.

We will never enrol you on a qualification unless we are sure that you have the required skills, knowledge and experience to be successful.

60,000 Industry Accreditation Cards to be withdrawn, what to do next?

Some 60,000 Industry Accreditation cards, also known as Grandfather Rights cards, allowed workers, supervisors and managers to obtain Blue, Gold and Black CSCS cards on the strength of an employers’ recommendation rather than the achievement of a recognised qualification.

CSCS closed Industry Accreditation to new applicants in 2010.

From 1st January 2020, all cards renewed under Industry Accreditation will expire on 31st December 2024 and CSCS will stop issuing the card from 30thJune 2024.

The withdrawal of Industry Accreditation will be the final step towards achieving the CLC’s requirement of ensuring nationally recognised qualifications are in place for all occupations.

CADUK can help experienced Supervisor/Managers with the transition through the qualification. Call us on 01952 287366 or visit our webite  www.caduk.co.uk

Would I benefit from an NVQ 7 in Construction Senior Management if I already have a Degree

Managers in the construction industry who have achieved high level academic qualifications in construction management such as  Degrees are not doing an National Vocational Qualification at level 7 because they feel that their academic achievements have far more value.

Many argue that it took over 3 years to achieve their academic qualifications in the pursuit of academic excellence.

This is true, but to ignore the benefits of undertaking a competence based assessment qualification (NVQ) when you have access to one (at 7) could be counterproductive in terms of professional development and access to work opportunities.  Academic qualifications such as degrees are an opportunity to enter an industry at a high level without having set foot on a construction site.

The Black CSCS card is linked to a Level 7 NVQ which demonstrates occupational competence and confirms the skills, knowledge and experience of an individual that has been gained over time in a real-world construction environment.

Don’t forget your development doesn’t finish at the start of your career. Give CADUK a call on 01952287366

Pearson Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Construction Senior Management

Route to the Black CSCS Card and MCIOB for Construction Managers

Construction Managers, Project Managers, Contracts and Production Managers, Commercial Managers, Operations Directors, Property Managers, and Facilities Managers can access the Black CSCS card and become Chartered with The Chartered Institute of Building, through the achievement of the Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Construction Senior Management, a qualification comparable to a Masters Degree in terms of academic value.

This qualification is the highest-level competence-based qualification in construction and is only accessible to established, experienced, senior managers. It is not suitable for those still developing their abilities in construction management.

This qualification is assessed entirely through ‘professional discussion’ and involves no classroom-based element or even any written work.

The first stage of the process requires you to collect various workplace documents (evidence) together and upload them to our online ePortfolio system ready for your MCIOB/FCIOB assessor to review. These documents will be used to prompt the professional discussion and will include things such as a program, phase plan, project risk register, scope of works, health and safety policy, emails, minutes of meetings, etc. .

Once the assessor has ‘approved’ your documentation (evidence) the next stage of the process is to conduct the professional discussion, which will be carried out online via Zoom.

During this discussion the assessor will select various key items of your submitted evidence and will ask you to describe the working process of the document in relation to the questions.

In essence, the assessor is asking you to describe in detail how you carry out your role, how the documentation ties-in with that process, and to provide real-life examples of projects where that process has been implemented. There are no ‘theory-based’ questions, the assessor doesn’t want to know how you ‘would’ do X, Y & Z, they want to know how you ‘did’ it.

Once the professional discussions are finished, the NVQ process is complete and you can apply for the Black ‘Manager’ CSCS card and get the ball rolling on your “fast-track” application to become Chartered with The CIOB.

Since this qualification is assessed through a discussion-based assessment where candidates can expect to be ‘challenged’ by a construction specialist NVQ assessor (all of our Level 7 assessors are industry experts and Memebers/Fellows of The CIOB), it is therefore only suitable for construction managers with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the role, whom are very confident in their abilities.

“CADUK Provided me with the facility and support I needed to get the correct qualification to further my career.

After a brief discussion with Gary, he gave me the belief that I would be able to complete the Level 7 NVQ in Construction Senior Management. Once I started the course it took me 6 months to complete, based on 2 evening sessions per week and a morning at weekends. It could be done quicker but I was able to allocate the times that suited my life and my work without having a detrimental effect on either.

My assessor was David and I cannot speak highly enough of him. I now have my Black CSCS card, have completed my Professional review and await approval for MCIOB status”

Shaun Bull

Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS), what is all about? – COVID 19

Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) is the leading skills certification scheme within the UK construction industry. CSCS cards provide proof that individuals working on construction sites have the required training and qualifications for the type of work they carry out.

A common misconception from those who are seeking to work in the construction industry is whether or not CSCS is a legal requirement. To work on a construction site there is currently no legal obligation to have a card before you work on site.

But the law requires that those participating in construction work must be competent, that is why Build UK have agreed that workers, supervisors and managers on their sites need to have a CSCS Card.

In fact, most job adverts looking for operatives, supervisors and managers in the construction sector, ask for applicants to already be in possession of a CSCS Card before they apply.

Having a CSCS Card may not be a legal requirement, but without one, you will find it difficult for employers to engage with you. In this COVID 19 days you can’t afford to be without one.

NVQ for Construction Managers

Construction Supervisors/Managers “You don’t know what you know” COVID 19

Most Construction Supervisors/Managers without formal qualifications like NVQs have no idea how much they know, and even worse, they don’t know the value of what they know. They are worried that:

Everyone I work with knows it already…
What I do is just common sense…
Lots of people know a lot more than me…
It’s pretty easy, most of the time I do it without thinking about it…

This often leads to them not reaching their full potential whilst more inexperienced people with university degrees and not as much workplace experience end up with more successful careers.

In simple terms in order to be able to VALUE what you do, you have to get what you know out of your head. You need to reflect on your own practice and get into professional discussion to present other types of evidence to back your responses. Whatever you do; you have to get it out there and share it with other Construction Professionals who are in a position to appreciate and measure what you have achieved.

If you’re prepared to undertake some self reflective practice we at CADUK can ensure that you achieve much more than just the satisfaction of knowing what you know, we can help you achieve the Gold and Black CSCS cards and if we feel that you are capable of achieving the Level 7 in |Construction Senior Management Membership of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), .

Let us help you.

Unlike some training providers we will never enrol you on a qualification unless we are 100% sure that you have the required skills, knowledge and experience to be successful.
