What is The Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate (ICWCI)?
The Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate (ICWCI) is the recognised Body for Construction Inspection. The Institute dates back to 1882, with a strong reputation for quality and professionalism.
As a membership organisation they provide a support network of meeting centres, technical advice, publications and events to help keep their members up to date with the ever changing construction industry.
The ICWCI operates Chapters, Meeting Centres and Branches across the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland and Hong Kong. They also have a membership presence in 18 other countries globally.

- A good general understanding of the specific construction inspection process (in particular around the inspection of materials and workmanship)
- An understanding of the obligations of all parties (requirements and boundaries)
- Foresight; i.e. identification of issues/potential issues and the ability to suggest alternative methods or mitigation techniques

Can I apply for Membership through an NVQ?
Yes, achievement of the Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Senior Site Inspection provides individials with an opportinity to apply for Licentiate or Membership of ICWCI.
Those applying for membership will initially be asked to complete an Application Form. With the Form, you will be required to send:
- Photocopies of relevant academic and technical qualifications
- A detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- An application fee of £150.00.
On receipt of your completed application and supply of the above supporting documents, a member of the ICWCI membership team will check your eligibility to proceed further.
If approved, you will be required to complete a Competency Report (guidelines on how to complete the report will be sent to you along with a Competency Report Template).
Following receipt of your completed Competency Report, your submission will be sent off for assessment, the result of the assessment will let the Membership Team know whether your report sufficiently demonstrated the level of competency required to take you through to a competency interview.
If the information provided in your Competency Report was sufficient to proceed to the next stage, you will be asked to attend an interview.
Following the interview, a member of the Membership Team will communicate the outcome to you.

What post-nominal letters can I use after my name?
Licentiates, Members, and Fellows of the of The Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate are eligible to use the following post-nominal letters after their name:
- Licentiate: John Smith LICWCI
- Member: John Smith MICWCI
- Fellow: John Smith FICWCI
Which NVQs will enable me to apply for MICWCI?
CADUK offer the following NVQs at Level 6 that provide access to the Membership of The Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate (MICWCI):
