Controlling Lifting Operations NVQs
Our SQA Controlling Lifting Operations NVQs at Levels 2, 4 & 5 enable Slinger Signallers, Lift Supervisors and Lift Planners (Appointed Persons) to access Blue CPCS cards.
These NVQs are a fantastic way of developing yourself and will undoubtedly lead to further progression in the industry.
Individuals will be assessed on-site by one of our specialist Controlling Lifting Operations assessors, all of whom have vast industry experience.
CADUK also offer a one-day on-site assessment method for these qualifications. This method of assessment is ideal for people who’s Red CPCS cards are coming up for renewal therefore require a replacement card very quickly.
This fast-track assessment is however only available to established, experienced lifting personnel and is not suitable for those still developing their abilities in this occupation.
Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Controlling Lifting Operations (Slinger Signaller)
This qualification is accessible to Banksman / Slinger Signallers holding the Red trained operator CPCS card.
They will work alongside the lifting teams to provide safe direction and supervision to the crane operators. They will ensure the safety of the operators, and any other workers or site visitors that could be at risk.
Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Controlling Lifting Operations (Supervising Lifts)
This qualification is accessible to Crane Supervisors, i.e. those responsible for supervising lifting operations.
The lift supervisor will work as part of a team to ensure the lifting operations comply with the law and secure the health and safety of employees and of all those affected by the operations.
Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Controlling Lifting Operations (Planning Lifts)
This qualification is accessible to Appointed Persons responsible for planning the execution and safety of the lifting operation.
The AP will analyse, calculate and specify a procedure and detail the method of executing the lifting operation, confirming both
good practice and regulatory requirements are met.

This method of assessment is ideal for people who’s red CPCS cards are coming up for renewal therefore require a replacement card very quickly.
Generally the learner will have the certificate of achievement delivered to their home address within 10 days. This certificate will be required to apply for the Blue CPCS card.
If the CPCS card is required urgently, we provide a bespoke service to enables the candidate to apply for their CPCS blue card within 2 days of the successful assessment taking place. The candidate therefore will not need to wait for the certificate to arrive by post.

There are no formal entry requirements for these Controlling Lifting Operations NVQs, however potential candidates must:
- Already hold the relevant red CPCS card.
- Have at least 6 months experience in the role.
- Be able to demonstrate to us that they can meet the skills and knowledge requirements of the NVQ prior to enrolment.
