Level 2 NVQ Certficate in Pedestrian Tower Crane

Pedestrian Tower Crane - Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Plant Operations

In addition to passing one of the above training courses, candidates must also have had at least 6 months experience operating Pedestrian Tower Cranes on a real construction site before they can enrol onto this qualification.

Achievement of this qualification enables candidates to upgrade their Red ‘Trained Operator’ CPCS/NPORS card to the Blue ‘Competent Operator’ card.

Candidates must complete three units in total for this qualification. This includes two core units and one category-specific unit. The two core units are the same on all categories of plant NVQ, therefore if a candidate has already achieved these units (i.e. on a prior NVQ in plant operations) they will not need to complete them again and will only need to achieve the one category-specific unit.

The three units of this qualification are:

  1. (core) Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
  2. (core) Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace
  3. (category specific) Preparing and Operating Remote Controlled Tower Cranes to Lift and Transfer Loads in the Workplace.

Frequently asked questions

How is this qualification assessed?

This Level 2 NVQ is assessed primarily through ‘professional discussion’ with your assessor.

This assessment method involves no written work or classroom-based elements.

In a nutshell, you’re simply telling your assessor how you carry out your role and showing them the evidence (documents, photos, videos) that proves it.

What sort of evidence is required for this qualification?

Examples of evidence required for this NVQs could include (but is not limited to):

  • Red CPCS/NPORS card
  • Method statement
  • Risk assessment
  • Toolbox talk
  • Weekly time sheet
  • Risk assessment
  • Inspection report
  • Witness testimony
  • Videos
  • Photographs
Who will be my assessor?

All of our assessors are experienced lifting professionals who have ‘done the job’ themselves and are therefore in a position to add real value to your qualification.

What is the duration of this qualification?

CADUK offer a unique one-day assessment for these qualifications.

The whole assessment is conducted and captured electronically through audio and video recordings which drastically reduces the duration compares with the traditional ‘paper and pen’ NVQ assessments.

In order for the assessment to take place in a single day you will be expected to thoroughly prepare beforehand and have all evidence ready to be presented on the day.

Do I need to have the Red CPCS or NPORS card first?

Yes, you will be expected to have passed the appropriate CPCS or NPORS course, be in possession of the Red ‘trained operator’ CPCS/NPORS card, and to have at least 6 months of proven experience in your occupation before undertaking any of these NVQs.

Prior to enrolment (as part of our initial profiling process) our assessors will speak to each candidate directly to ensure that they have the knowledge, experience, confidence, and evidence to be successful on the NVQ.

Only after the assessor has approved you to start, can you be enrolled onto the qualification.

When can I apply for my CPCS card?

Usually within 2 days of the assessment being completed we will send you an electronic confirmation (by email) that proves that you have passed the NVQ.

This electronic confirmation can be used to apply for the Blue CPCS card right away, without having to wait for the certificate to arrive by post.

Can I fail this NVQ?

Technically Yes, you can fail any NVQ. NVQs are competence-based qualifications, they are a recognition of the skills, knowledge and experience that you already have. With that in mind, if you have never ‘done the job’ and don’t have the evidence to prove it, how are you going to answer the question?

We at CADUK have robust procedures in place to ensure that doesn’t happen.

The key to our success in this area is that we only enrol candidates onto our qualifications in the first place that we know have the skills, knowledge and experience to be successful.

We carry out a thorough profiling process (free of charge) with each and every candidate before enrolment to make 100% sure that the qualification is achievable before you start.

As part of this process one of our assessors will contact you directly to confirm that you have the skills, knowledge and experience required to be successful.

Once our assessor has ‘approved’ you to start, you can enrol at any time.
