Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Senior Site Inspection

Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Senior Site Inspection

The Pearson/Edexcel Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations Management is for Site Inspectors, Architectural Inspectors and Quality Inspectors – i.e. those managers who carry out the role of Clerk of Works.

The Clerk of Works ensures value for money for the client rather than the contractor and is achieved through rigorous and detailed inspection of materials and workmanship throughout the building process.

These people will have responsibility for monitoring project quality and managing project progress and handover in construction.

Achievement of this qualification enables learners to apply for Licentiate (LICWCI) or Membership (MICWCI) of The Institute of Clerk of Works and Construction Inspectorate. The grade of membership you can achieve depends on your experience in the duties/responsibilities associated with a construction inspection (or similar) role.

Please Note: This Level 6 qualification is accessible only to those that are already working in a senior quality inspection/Clerk of Works role. Contractors, Sub-Contractors, Site Managers and Level 3 construction tradespeople looking to get their ‘first step on the ladder’ to towards a career as a Clerk of Works may wish to consider the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Site Inspection.

Frequently asked questions

How is this qualification assessed?

We have two assessment options for this qualification:

Option 1: Written work assessment (this is the most popular method of assessment for this qualification)

This assessment method requires candidates to upload workplace evidence (documents) to our online ePortfolio portal and provide a short written statement against this evidence. This statement essentially needs to describe the link between the question and the evidence that has been submitted (i.e. – how this document helps facilitate X,Y & Z process). Your assessor will review your work online and provide detailed feedback and guidance.

Option 2: Professional discussion assessment

This method assessed requires no written work and is instead assessed through a series of discussions with your NVQ assessor via Zoom.

We provide a list of evidence documents that you will need to upload to our ePortfolio portal. Once your assessor has reviewed the documentation and is satisfied with it, you will move onto the discussion stage.

The discussions will be carried out remotely via Zoom. During this session you will ‘share screens’ with your assessor so that you can view the evidence documents and unit questions together.

You will then work through each of the units essentially telling your assessor how you carry out your role, giving examples of real projects, real scenarios and describing how the evidence that you have presented helped facilitate the process.

What sort of evidence is required for this qualification?

The evidence requirements for this qualification include (but are not limited to) documents such as:

  • Quality inspection report
  • Non-conformance report
  • Quality management plan
  • Compliance checklist
  • Corrective action plan
  • Snagging list
  • Project deviation
  • Project team meeting minutes

Evidence submitted can be related to various different projects provided that it under 5 years old.

Who will be my assessor?

Many of our assessors for the Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management are Members or Fellows of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB). They are highly experienced, qualified construction professionals who have ‘done the job’ themselves and are therefore in a position to add real value to your qualification.

Many of our assessors have worked in senior construction management positions for Tier 1 companies such as Macegroup and Laing O’Rourke.

We carefully select a particular assessor for each individual learner to ensure that your workplace experiences are aligned and that the feedback and guidance provided is useful, relevant and rewarding.

Your assessor will provide advice and feedback on request via phone, email, Teams/Zoom and through our ePortfolio system.

What is the duration of this qualification?

How does the ICWCI application work?

Achievement of this qualification enables learners to apply for Licentiate (LICWCI) or Membership (MICWCI) of The Institute of Clerk of Works and Construction Inspectorate.

The grade of membership you can achieve depends on your experience in the duties/responsibilities associated with a construction inspection (or similar) role.

All applicants will be asked to attend the ICWCI membership interview.

When can I apply for my CSCS card?

Once enrolled onto this qualification you will be eligible to apply for the Red Experienced Technical, Supervisor or Manager CSCS card right away (this is optional, but useful for those that need a CSCS card urgently). This card is issued on a temporary basis and demonstrates that you are working towards an NVQ.

Once the NVQ has been completed, we’ll send you a scanned copy of your certificate which you can use to apply for your Black ‘Manager’ CSCS Card.

Please note: To apply for any CSCS card you are required to have passed the appropriate level of CITB Health, safety and environment (HS&E) test within the last two years.

More information about this can be found here.

Can I fail this NVQ?

Technically Yes, you can fail any NVQ. NVQs are competence-based qualifications, they are a recognition of the skills, knowledge and experience that you already have. With that in mind, if you have never ‘done the job’ and don’t have the evidence to prove it, how are you going to answer the question?

We at CADUK have robust procedures in place to ensure that doesn’t happen.

The key to our success in this area is that we only enrol candidates onto our qualifications in the first place that we know have the skills, knowledge and experience to be successful.

We carry out a thorough profiling process (free of charge) with each and every candidate before enrolment to make 100% sure that the qualification is achievable before you start.

As part of this process we ask you to complete an initial profile tool (questionnaire) and return it to us with a copy of your CV. One of our assessors will then contact you directly to confirm that you have the skills, knowledge and experience required to be successful.

Once our assessor has ‘approved’ you to start, you can enrol at any time.

If the assessor thinks that a different qualification is more suitable, they will recommend an alternative NVQ. This may be a lower or higher level qualification, but you will be confident that you can actually ‘live up’ to the qualification that you’re taking on.
